Rockcliff U15 10 – North Shields U15 10

Both sides served up some great rugby, with North Shields having the edge in the forwards and Rockcliff the advantage in the backs.

Rockcliffs tries came from Adam Thompson and Adam Ferreira, with Ferreiras try capping a man of the match performance. Dan Leach pitched in with some excellent cover tacking and there was good defence by both sides.
At the death Rockcliff had the chance to win the game with a penalty and opted to run the ball but the Shields defence held out to end the game with a result that failry reflected the efforts of both teams.

Under 17s Training Moved

The under 17s training has been moved from Wednesday nights to Tuesday nights at 6pm.

Blyth U15s 29 – Rockcliff U15s 31

The Under 15′s came away from Blyth with victory by a narrow margin after a good close match. Rockcliff scored tries through Dan Shaw (converted by Adam Richardson) Perry Briggs, Dale Calder, Chris Ward and Peter Baines, with Rhys Johnston converting the last two. Adam Richardson also had a try disallowed. There were good displays by Harry Ramage, Dan Shaw, Tom Crame, Adam Ferreira and Perry Briggs and Rhys Johnston capped a man of the match performance with a brilliant try saving tackle at the end of the game.

Rockcliff U17s 5 – Seaton Carew U17s 31

A scratch Rockcliff side didn’t really get going as a team until the second half by which time Seaton Carew had racked up a 24-0 lead. Despite this there were some good individual performances from man of the match Dan Simpson, Mickey Ball, Michael Birkett and Dan Atkinson. The second half was much closer and Rockcliff scored a deserved try after good work by the pack set the backs free and Mickey Ball burst through from 30 metres out to score. Seaton Carew scored a late converted try to put the icing on the cake.

Rockcliff struggled with the power of the Novos Pack

The Under 17s served up an entertaining game and were just edged out by Novos. Tries from Ben Reid (2), and Gary Whittle, Gavin Newboy and Matt Dunbar were added to by conversions from Newboy(3) and Whittle

Under 15′s Host Sunderland & Horden

Against Horden they lost 27-17 but had the visitors under pressure for most of the last twenty minutes. A great driving run by David Burn set up James Rennison on the Horden line and he crossed over to score, with Sean Horden converting. Rhys Johnstone added a penalty to take Rockcliffs tally to 10 but Horden, inspired by Harry Cox, had a 17 point advantage through tries from Alex Robson, Jordan Yates and Craig Drummond and a conversion by Yates.

Horden notched further tries through Harry Cox and Davey Smith and Rockcliff were chasing the game and they kept Horden in their own half for ling opel but they were defending well against the strong running of Joe Smith and good counter attaching from Adam Richarson and Dan Shaw. Shaw eventually broke through to score under the posts, converted by Adam Ferreira.

Against a strong Sunderland side they lost 46-33 in a free running game. After conceding three tries for 15-0 Rockcliff responded when Matt Dunbar broke from the kick off return to score under the posts, converted by Rhys Johnstone. Sunderland came back with a further try and this inspired a good spell of pressure and Dan Atkinson, Joe Rennison and Joe Smith combined with a series of driving runs to put Smith over wide on the left. Rhys Johnstone scored a superb conversion for 20-14. As the effects of the Horden game took its toll on Rockcliffs legs Sunderland pulled away to 36-14 but Rockcliff kept in touch when Dan Atkinson scored for 36-19, and this was followed by a great chip and chase move by Rhys Wiley who scored an excellent try, converted by Johnstone, to close the gap to ten points. Sunderland almost had the final say with two late tries, but Matt Dunbar scored a late try, again converted by Johnstone to close the game.
Sunderlands scores came through Harry Lewison with 4 tries, Joe Arrowsmith, Guy Kingsley-Smith, and Matty Brown. Kingsley-Smith added a drop goal and Joe Lamb added four conversions. Sunderland player James Carroll was stretchered off with a back injury, and all at Rockcliff wish him a speedy recovery.
